Grilled cheese sandwiches are super quick and easy, but can sometimes be boring. So I decided to try and elevate my plain grilled cheese sandwiches into something so much more delicious. I first tried a sandwich like this years ago and after having it today, I’m angry that I haven’t tried to make it since then. The sandwich was the perfect combination of cheesy and fresh, with just the right amount of salt.
Makes 1 sandwich, and takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
The ingredients:
2-3 Pieces of Bacon
1/4 of a Honey crisp Apple thinly sliced
1/2 cup of Cheddar Jack Cheese
1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese
2 Slices of a Bread of your choice (Whole grain bread pictured)
Here’s how to do it:
1. Cook the couple slices of bacon for 4-5 minutes and then cut them in half and set aside.
2. Thinly slice a quarter of the apple, and set aside.
3. Put one piece of bread down and half of the cheese mix, top with apple slices, bacon, and the other half of the cheese. Top with the other piece of bread.
4. Butter the top of the bread, and place butter side down in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Butter top of the sandwich and wait about 2-3 minutes and then flip.
5. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
6. Flip and give 1-2 minutes on both sides until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
